When Prithvi arrived at the site a few days into the shooting, Aditya and his crew were setting up the cameras by the side of a river. A large crowd had gathered to witness the annual boat race that had already begun kilometres away, upstream. The team had already gotten the permissions required for shooting on the river bank, and had planned and arranged the shots for the next few days. Today, they were going to shoot during the live boat race.

Ramu walked over towards Prithvi with a jaunty stride, his overwhelming attar smell preceding him. “Hello, Sir!”

Prithvi’s hand almost went up to his nose before he shook the proffered hand.

Ramu’s eyes shone. “How do you like the arrangements, Sir?” He pointed at the crew and people milling around.

“Aditya told me you suggested this venue?”

Ramu puffed up his chest. “When I saw the boat race scene in the script I suggested we shoot during the Pulinkunnu boat race, Sir. It will give us the perfect backdrop for our casual shots.” He led Prithvi to the edge of the river and pointed upstream. “The race will start from kilometres away, upstream, pass this spot and continue onward to its destination quite some distance away, downstream.”

“Right,” Prithvi said.

“If I hadn’t thought of this idea, we might have had to book the boats and hire the boatmen and the costumes. It would have cost us a lot of money,” Ramu said, looking proud of his idea.

Prithvi nodded. There was no doubt Ramu was a resourceful man.

Aditya walked over. “We have the cameras in place. We’re going to capture the live boat race and village crowds. Then we’ll shoot with our own men within the backdrop to make it look more realistic. Ramu’s plan turned out to be a great idea.”

“I think he’s living up to the reputation my friend KD claimed,” Prithvi said, and Ramu beamed.

Manu’s fight scenes were also getting set up against the background of the boat race.

A little away and closer to the river, a team was helping Manu rehearse his scene. Prithvi watched the rehearsal from a distance.

Manu was looking up the riverside. A few minutes later, a few hooligans came running towards him and tried to snatch his bag. A fight ensued. The AD explained the ending of the shot where one of the hooligans would push Manu into the river and escape with his bag. According to the script, Manu would struggle and drown because he didn’t know how to swim.

Manu sat down on a nearby chair to take a break while the crew readied the cameras and lights.

Bobby arrived just then.

“That’s my shirt,” Manu yelled suddenly, pointing at Bobby.

“Too bad. It was hanging in the vanity van and I thought it was mine,” Bobby exclaimed.

A scuffle started. Manu made a growling sound in his throat and lunged at Bobby’s collar. “Give it back. I need it for the next shot.”

In a blink, Ramu ran up to the two and separated them. “Hey, cut it, you two!”

Manu’s face went red.
